TOOLS & TECHNIQUESRISA-2D Modeling, Moment Distribution Method, Slope Deflection Method, Stiffness Matrix Formulation
Conducted for Indeterminate Structural Analysis, this project compared classical manual structural solution techniques against numerical finite-element modeling in RISA-2D for indeterminate frames.
Key Engineering Scope
- Classical Hand Calculations: Solved indeterminate reactions and member end moments utilizing Moment Distribution and Slope-Deflection methods under point and distributed loads.
- RISA-2D Computer Modeling: Assembled the computational frame model with boundary constraints and load combinations to extract reactions, nodal displacements, and internal shears.
- Force Diagram Verification: Compared Axial Force Diagrams (AFD), Shear Force Diagrams (SFD), and Bending Moment Diagrams (BMD) across both methods.
- Discrepancy & Convergence Review: Analyzed minor variations between techniques, identifying effects of member axial deformations and computational discretization.
