Structural Design of Three-Story Reinforced Concrete School Building
DOMAINStructural Engineering, Reinforced Concrete, Building Design
TOOLS & TECHNIQUESManual Concrete Calculations, AutoCAD, ACI Design Handbooks
Conducted for Reinforced Concrete Design I, this project executed the full structural member sizing and reinforcement detailing for a three-story institutional building on a 120’ x 180’ plot.
Key Engineering Scope
- Structural Grid & Gravity Loads: Established structural framing layouts and performed dead and live load takeoffs for classrooms, corridors, and roof decks.
- One-Way Floor Slabs: Designed continuous one-way floor and roof slabs for flexural capacity, minimum deflection thickness, and shrinkage steel.
- Continuous Beams: Calculated flexural tension steel, compression steel for doubly reinforced sections, and shear stirrup spacing along critical spans.
- Columns & Detailing: Sized exterior square tied columns and interior circular spiral columns using P-M interaction diagrams, drafting bar schedules and lap splice details.
