TOOLS & TECHNIQUESEPA SWMM 5.2, Dynamic Wave Routing, AutoCAD, Rainfall-Runoff Modeling
This project developed the hydraulic network and stormwater drainage model for an approximately 102-hectare urban catchment in Wah Cantt using EPA SWMM.
Key Engineering Scope
- Flow & Population Estimation: Projected a 20-year design population of 3,835 residents and estimated peak sanitary flows using Harmon’s peaking factor.
- Dynamic Simulation: Analyzed dual meteorological scenarios comprising typical 30 mm/hr rainfall and an extreme 60 mm/hr monsoon event.
- Topographic Optimization: Overcame steep terrain slopes (1,590 ft to 1,543 ft), maintaining self-cleansing velocity (≥ 2.5 ft/s) while preventing high-velocity scouring.
- System Calibration: Revised conduit slopes, pipe diameters, and added drop manholes in EPA SWMM, resolving node flooding and hydraulic surcharging.
